Hayley Tjon-Aloi is an emerging artist from Toronto, Canada. Graduating from OCAD University's Drawing & Painting program in 2018, she currently lives and works in Melbourne, Australia.
Working in a variety of different media, Hayley has created work for companies such as Whole Foods Market and Starbucks in creating graphic design pieces and chalkboard art. She has also aided in marketing through social media with the use of visual art pieces. Recently delving into stick and poke tattoos, Hayley places a focus on simplistic, clean line work whilst still employing the stylistic influence garnered from her painting style.
Hayley's personal work focuses on oil paintings as a reflection and a peering-in of the day to day life of a millennial female, showing the sides of women society is not used to seeing; the unplanned, the mundane, the untouched. Faces are removed from the subjects so that the viewer may be able to step inside the world of the individual, imagining that it is them in their own space, and therefore creating a “me too” moment. These colourful and organic depictions of the subjects display a narrative when discussing issues of feminism, and critique today’s society on the representation of women through these ordinary moments in a woman’s day. She aims to show the viewer the “real” side of women; as subjects as opposed to objects.
